stag pt. one

July 11th, 2007

After saying good-bye to my stuff once again, John (from work), picked me up on Saturday and drove us out to meet the others at Goobies. It’s a gas station restaurant with the best bread in the world. From there we headed out to a place called the Captain’s Quarters (I think) which is somewhere between Clarenville and Lethbridge.

There was a healthy dose of rain and fog on the way up. John was also having a slight wiper problem — the universal attachement wasn’t universal enough and tended to fly off when wet and in use. We stopped and picked up another wiper instead.

This is on the mostly-hidden path into the cabin.

Followed by the cabin where we were staying.

Front view of the cabin. Interestingly enough, the front of the cabin follows almost the exact same design as one of the Chalet designs (the Lakeside style in particular) at Humber Valley. But in a smaller scale.

And the view. Honestly, I can’t imagine why anyone would come here.
Actually, the photo doesn’t even really compare to actually being there. Being a stag party, I decided to leave my tripod at home and just brought the camera for fun snaps. Turns out, there were two other photographers there (both of whom also left their respective tripods at home), and I really wished I had brought it.

Everyone enjoying a drink on the deck. Except for me of course, because I didn’t have my tripod. But this was probably taken on the way from the fridge to the deck, and my beer wasn’t far away.

In addition to the food we each brought, there was a good selection supplied as well, including two 5lb lobsters, caribou, moose and seal. Lobster I’m not too kean on (even by smell alone) so I skipped out on that one and the seal didn’t look that appetizing, so I also passed. As for the moose, it’s clearly mystery meat as there are no moose in this province. I was promised moose when I came here, and have yet to see any. I’m suspecting it’s all just a big marketing ploy for tourists.

With those three down, all that remained was the caribou, which, I must say, is very nice.

Later in the night (we’re thinking around nine), John fell asleep on the table after eating his steak. Eventually he stumbled off to a bedroom and slept until 9 the next morning.
I’ll have more later in the week.

In other news, I’ve finally got around to launching an idea that was bounced around almost two years ago, but never really got realized until Tuesday. I’ve wanted, for a while, to have a site with bi-weekly photo contests for everyone and anyone to partake in, comment, vote and repeat, but never really had the means to do it. On tuesday, Doteasy (who hosts my theExperiment.ca site) released the rough code that I could use for my site for free. So I did.
It’s pretty bare, basic, and without people right now, but it is up and running at http://theExperiment.ca and that makes me pretty happy. I seem to have a lot of ideas, but never finish them, and while this isn’t necessairly finished, it is up and running. And that’s close enough for now.
