Going down?

December 6th, 2007

So I’m sure I’ve secured a ticket to the nether-worlds with this little prank.

During the storm on Sunday night the control board for our phones got a little damaged. As a result, most of the phones developed a lovely clicking noise. Now, to be fair, it was a very old board and the repair guy wasn’t really sure how it lasted this long. Sadly, I don’t think duct tape can be attributed to it’s longevity.

After he looked at it, Jena’s phone ceased working completely around 4:20, at about the time her Husband usually calls her. Though it wasn’t completely dead, it still rang and the voicemail still worked. Which is great, when the people that start calling actually leave messages. The ones that did, kept calling. Again. And again. This is followed by Jena trying to track down her Husband who is calling from a mystery phone as he’s not answering his cell, office or home phone. Or his email for that matter.

But this isn’t funny enough. So I emailed John and gave him an idea. I almost start cracking up then and there because, the next office over, I can hear John cackling as soon as he gets the email, followed by Jena’s phone ringing once again.

Now the kicker. He’s on his second call to her when she, on her cell phone, goes “Hello John” and we think the gig is up. I disappear to his office and he hangs up, with Jena not long behind me. We, of course, are the picture of innocence (I’m sure mom knows that look by now, and with lessons to be given to my Nephew as soon as he needs it of course) and Jena starts telling us about all the calls she’s been getting in such a short time. John breaks down first and tells her what we were up to for the last couple of calls. And then we all loose it because Jena was actually on the phone with her friend John and had no idea what we were up to. I almost end up on the floor laughing with tears in my eyes.

She called us buggers and threatened not to talk to us for the rest of the day. Which is fine, as it was after five by that point.
