Before I begin, just how many of you cringed at the superfluous “i” in the title?
Earlier today I was finishing off a game of scrabble on Facebook and at the very end I was faced with the potential of three “i’s” as my last letters. Which isn’t a really encouraging possibility. And sure, there are words like “possibility” and “ability” that have plenty of “i’s” in them, but these weren’t options.
So I’m thinking, whoever was in charge of naming the first “i-whatever” was in the same circumstance as me. Sitting there, playing scrabble, with more “i’s” than most people would ever need for an entire game. All at the end. Sure there’s plenty of “in’s” and “it’s” that can be done, but when you’re down but a hundred points, they really don’t add up.
Clearly, the only solution is to tell your opponent you’ll be back in a minute, go invent some new words (iPhone, iTunes, iMac, etc) and return in 50 years or so when these have been inducted into the dictionary and finish the game. Surely they wouldn’t have disturbed the board, in that time.
Sadly, for me, I lost by a hundred points as I tried the “in” and “it” method. But next time!

PS – The correct answer is all of you.
