Yesterday we were busy working away towards the end of the day. About 4.30 actually. Christine, whom I share an office with, happened to notice the evacuation of the building we’re connected to. Given the time and that it’s a government building, we watched with some amusement as most of the people, their briefcases and coats trailing along behind them, made a mad dash for freedom as the fire trucks pulled up. Couldn’t really blame them actually.
Sadly, because we’re connected, our fire alarm went off shortly after the fire trucks arrived. Now, maybe it’s just me, but I always thought that the fire alarms went off before the trucks arrived. Guess that’s just me.
So we went back to work. Can’t be that serious, right? I mean, the trucks did arrive before our alarm sounded.
Sadly, Carol went through the office and rounded all of the unwilling participants up and out of their office chairs. Apparently we have to leave when the fire alarm is going off. Sheesh.
Waiting outside was cold. And boring. After about twenty minutes we got pretty sick of it. So, being the people that we were, we decided to go for a beer while waiting out the rest of the fire alarm. Now, we can all remember from our school days that, as soon as one person starts to head back in, everyone heads back in. And, since the nearest bar was on the other side of the office, well, you can see where this is going.
As soon as we started walking, a sea of cold, tired people formed behind us, all intent on heading back into the warmth of the office building. Looking back, at the mass of people standing in front of the office building while we entered the Delta, I almost felt bad for misleading them. And then I had beer.
Plus, had they been as smart as us, they’d also be going for beer.

hahahaha.
Fantastic story. I wish I’d thought of going for a beer when my building was evacuated in the dead of winter. We had to walk down 15 flights of stairs!!!! A beer would have gone down quite nicely! I’ll remember that for next time.
