For those of you in the know, I’ve been part of the Farmers’ Market Committee since January. Before that they had three test markets, took a break over Christmas, and then started planning a more permanent market for Spring 2008. And this is where I and a few other people joined in.
It’s been a lot of work and more than a few times where I felt like leaving the Committee. Except I really liked the people far too much and saw the project through.
This Saturday was the first market of the year and it was a rousing success. For a while there was a counter going at the door but that was stopped after 1137 visitors. We’re guessing it was about 1300 people in the end that made their way through. One girl that I was talking to was actually on her way home to Torbay. When she heard about it on CBC, she turned around and drove straight to the Market. How amazing is that?
For me, most of the day was spent taking pictures and helping Colin and Lori (also committee members who had me cat sit for them) make Smoothies at their booth. I also ate a waffle. What a great market.
All in all, this is something that should have been done long ago, but never seemed to work. I’m really glad to be part of it and part of the community.
